Pataksala, Ohio (15 June 2012) – Michael Shank Racing traveled to the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Thursday with the team’s Continental Tire-liveried Daytona Prototype 2-seater as Continental Tire hosted a number of tire dealers from around the country as part of the PureContact product launch.
No mere show car, the DP is the very same Dallara machine that Burt Frisselle and Ricky Taylor raced in Rolex Series competition before AJ Allmendinger, Justin Wilson, and Michael McDowell shared the entry for a top-10 run in the 2011 Rolex 24 At Daytona.
GRAND-AM racer Brian Frisselle joined the Shank squad for a day of giving rides around the circuit which utilizes both the famed oval and infield road course.
Frisselle gave nearly 40 rides throughout the afternoon which included over 20 Continental Tire customers and two employees, eight media members and two Sweeps Winners from Facebook. Indianapolis area broadcasters including Scott Swan and Eric Halvorson, as well as Colts punter Pat McAfee were among the many riders, and Frisselle even had the chance to take his uncle for a thrilling ride around the historic track.
“We had an outstanding day at the track as part of our Continental PureContact launch with our dealers,” said Greg Vandermark, Continental Tire Event Manager. “Having Michael Shank Racing give our dealers, as well as all the media and local personalities on hand, the opportunity to see firsthand what it is like to be at speed in a Daytona Prototype on this track is literally a once in a lifetime experience. Continental Tire is extremely excited about racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this July, and having both the Rolex Sports Car and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series race on the same day is going to be quite the experience for the fans.”
The event was a preview of the excitement to come as Shank will return for a two-day test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 6 & 7 with the No. 60 LiveOn Ford-Riley and drivers John Pew and Ozz Negri as the team prepares for GRAND-AM’s debut at the circuit July 27. The event will be held as part of the Speedway’s Super Weekend at the Brickyard which also features the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide series.

Michael Shank Racing has a busy few weeks ahead with the Road America event next weekend and the 6 Hours of the Glen following just a week later. After Watkins Glen, it’s right back to Indianapolis for two full days of testing at the historic venue.
